Hand-knotted is a technique, not a brand label. It means cord measured by feel, knots tied one at a time, and the slow accumulation of a panel over ten to fourteen days. There is no faster way to do it that still counts as hand-knotted.
Our workshop in North Vietnam is a small partnership — a founder and one to two partner makers — operating at a scale that lets the cord and the hands set the pace. We don't publish individual names or portraits. The work is collective, the signature on the reverse is the record, and the privacy belongs to the makers.
Vietnamese craft preservation is its own quiet emergency right now. Hand-skills are pressed from two sides — cheap imports on one side, a younger generation leaving for factory and city work on the other. Ketelier is one small partnership inside that bigger story, committed to fair compensation and ordinary working hours.
What you receive when you buy a Ketelier piece: a panel hand-knotted by a particular pair of hands, on a particular afternoon, in a workshop that closes for a long Tết. Signed, dated, sent. The wait is the point.
